RBC GranFondo Whistler 2014
If the idea of riding up a mountain with a group of like-minded, lycra-clad individuals appeals to you, you’re going to love the GranFondo Whistler. Starting in Vancouver’s Stanley Park, more than 7,000 cyclists will start the “big ride” (yup, that’s what “GranFondo” loosely translates to in Italian), heading over the iconic Lions Gate Bridge, before continuing up the Sea-To-Sky highway to Whistler.
The organizers are quick to point out that this is not a race, people! It’s a group ride that welcomes everyone from amateurs (who might want to tackle the 55 km/34 mile “medio” course starting in Squamish), through to competitive cyclists, with the full ride being 122 km/76 miles. This year they’re introducing a 152 km/94 mile distance for two-wheeled keeners who get off on things like “a ton more elevation gain.”
This year’s RBC GranFondo Whistler is on Saturday, September 6, and registration is still open. Deal alert: if you haven’t registered yet, book your stay at The Burrard through beVancouver, and you’ll get a promo code to get 30% off your registration! That’s right – hotel first, then race registration.
If you’ve already registered and are looking for a place to stay before the big ride, The Burrard is just a five minute cycle from the start line, and we’ll treat you real nice. Click here to book your GranFondo stay at The Burrard.
