RBC GranFondo Whistler 2015
If the idea of riding up a mountain with a group of like-minded, lycra-clad individuals appeals to you, you’re going to love the GranFondo Whistler. On Saturday, September 12, more than 4,000 cyclists will start the “big ride” (yup, that’s what “GranFondo” loosely translates to in Italian), starting in Vancouver’s Stanley Park, heading over the iconic Lions Gate Bridge, before continuing up the Sea-To-Sky highway to Whistler.
The organizers are quick to point out that this is not a race, people! It’s a group ride that welcomes everyone from amateurs (who might want to tackle the 67 km/42 mile “medio” course finishing in Squamish), through to competitive cyclists, with the full ride being 122 km/76 miles. And then there’s a 152 km/94 mile distance for two-wheeled keeners who get off on things like “a ton more elevation gain.”
Sound like something you’re up for? Registration for this year’s RBC GranFondo Whistler is still open.
If you’ve already registered and are looking for a place to stay before the big ride, The Burrard is just a five minute cycle from the start line, and we’ll treat you real nice. Click here to book your GranFondo stay at The Burrard.
