TAKE-OUT: May 2014

Things to do in Vancouver  |  04.29.2014  |

If you’re looking for things to do in Vancouver, you’ve come to the right place! Guys, there’s so much on in the city right now, that here’s a taste of the awesome things that didn’t even make the list: a spot prawn celebration, a burlesque festival, and Lionel Ritchie. That’s right, Lionel Ritchie’s coming to town, and things are so fun in Vancouver right now, that HE DIDN’T EVEN MAKE THE LIST!

Edward Burtynsky
A TERRIBLE BEAUTY: EDWARD BURTYNSKY
Has there ever been a more appropriate name for an exhibition? From far away, these images look like beautiful abstracts, but when you get closer, they reveal themselves as landscapes scarred by industry and human progress. Toronto-based photographer Edward Burtynsky is known for these epic works, and this is a comprehensive exhibition of his work from 1983 to present, with lots of British Columbian content included.
Through May 26 at Vancouver Art Gallery

Cirque du Soleil's Totem
CIRQUE DU SOLEIL PRESENTS “TOTEM”

If you’re not totally down with Cirque, we’ll give you a pass, because let’s face it, some of their shows can be a bit weird. But we’re excited about their new production, Totem, because it’s written and produced by artistic visionary, Robert Lepage. The show presents the evolutionary process of the human species through science, legend, and people who are definitely better at yoga than you are.
May 15 – July 6 at Concord Pacific Place

VCBW
VANCOUVER CRAFT BEER WEEK
We know, every week is craft beer week, but seriously, this gets better and better every year as our craft beer scene grows up. This year they even have this dope video starring Prevail from Swollen Members and virtually every brewery in the city. Chug your way through tastings, dinners, and brewery events. And The Burrard is the official hotel of VCBW, so check out our very own courtyard for some sunny, pre-fest brews.
May 30 – June 7 all over Vancouver

Tracy Morgan
TRACY MORGAN – TURN IT FUNNY
You know who’s a funny dude? Tracy Morgan, that’s who! To be honest, we have trouble delineating between the comedian himself and Tracy Jordan, the character he played on 30 Rock. But then, if you check the headlines, it seems like Morgan sometimes runs into the same trouble.
May 30 at the Commodore Ballroom
