With 2019 just around the corner, it’s time to celebrate! Vancouver offers hundreds of different ways to count down to midnight, but how do you choose? To help navigate your event options, we’ve put together a list of choices with activities to suit your interests, whether your year was one for the history books or you’re just ready to leave 2018 behind.
For the Craft Beer Lover:
If you’re enamoured with the creative craft brews that have sprouted up throughout Vancouver in recent years, this is your one-stop-spot to imbibe in the best beverages the city has to offer. CRAFT Beer Market’s Beer in the New Year is their biggest New Years Party yet! CRAFT Beer Market in Olympic Village serves up Canada’s largest selection of draught beers – over 100 at any given time, with kegs come from all over the world along with a robust selection of local and Canadian taps. Tickets to the Beer in the New Year event come with drink tickets, access to five food stations, DJ entertainment, late night snacks and – despite the craft beer theme – a toast of champagne at midnight.
For the Outdoor Adventurer and Après Enthusiast:
This celebration is a double doozy; a one-two treat for the senses! Head up to Grouse Mountain for their New Year’s Eve Snowshoe Fondue. Begin with a one-hour guided snowshoe tour among groomed powder trails as you take in the clean mountain air. Traverse the evergreens until the trail opens up to spectacular vistas – on clear days you can downtown Vancouver and the Pacific Ocean. After working up an appetite, sit down and savour cheese, broth, and chocolate fondue courses. The snowshoe fondue will be held at four different times in the afternoon and evening on December 31, as well as dates throughout the winter.
For the Traditionalist:
One of the most popular ways to ring in the new year is with the fireworks at downtown’s Canada Place. Over 100,000 attendees fill the waterfront areas at Canada Place for the biggest, free outdoor street party of the year. Starting at 7 pm, Jack Poole Plaza comes alive with outdoor entertainment including marching bands, 12-foot tall puppets, comedians and DJs. Not to be outdone by the entertainment is the food portion of the evening. Touted as Vancouver’s largest winter food truck festival, the city’s top food trucks will be on hand to offer up all your favourite dishes.
For the One-of-a-Kind Party-Goer:
Countdown to midnight at a rocking party – with a twist. One of Vancouver’s most unique and playful event spaces, TELUS World of Science, opens up for the night for a 19+ party for the ages. Now in its 12th year, the dress-to-impress event has the feel of a nightclub in a venue full of interactive science stations. There will be two rooms of music, a whopping six DJs and five bar areas. The iconic, waterfront landmark holds 1,100 people and overlooks Vancouver’s False Creek.
