Summer’s most explosive Vancouver event begins with a bang on July 28. The Honda Celebration of Light is a can’t-miss fireworks competition that lights up the skies over the Burrard Inlet. The event pits country against country as they deliver a stunning pyrotechnic performance to music. Opening the event on July 28 is the display from the South African team, with Sweden following on August 1, and South Korea on August 4. For the first time ever, this year’s event has been given a theme, voted on by the public. Each country’s submission will have to weave the theme “love” into their showcase.
An easy evening stroll from the hotel, the event can be viewed from English Bay, among other waterfront or rooftop locations throughout the city. Despite the name, the Celebration of Light isn’t just about the fireworks – it’s a celebration of music and food too! Head down early to grab a top spot on the beach and take in the live music from the Bathhouse Roof at English Bay. Or stroll further into Stanley Park for a concert on the Park Stage at Second Beach. A selection of B.C.’s best food trucks will be on hand for a sunset picnic. Be sure to bring a chair or blanket and stake your claim early because, as the sun goes down, the beach becomes standing room only. The fireworks begin promptly at 10 pm, rain or shine.
If you’re visiting Vancouver, don’t forget to book a stay with us at The Burrard. We’re only a 10-minute walk to the beach – what’s not to love?
