It might be time to put away the winter coats, but we’re not quite ready to stash the umbrellas. But while there will most definitely be “April showers” there will also be April sunny walks, April bike rides, and April patio drinks. Vancouver’s streets are full of cherry blossoms, but you’ll still find lots of arts and cultural activities to keep you entertained whatever the weather. Below are some of our top picks for things to do in Vancouver in April.

Food Truck Fest at UBC
April 3 & 4
While food trucks are no longer the novelty they once were, the fact remains that they’re a great way to try lots of different cuisines, dishes and drinks all in the one place. Out at the University of British Columbia’s verdant campus, Food Truck Fest brings together over 20 vendors throughout two days (running from 11 am to 7 pm), along with local artisans, live music and lots of seating to enjoy your meal out in the sunshine. Vendors include Vancouver classics such as Chickpea, Shameless Buns, Taco Nori and Tochi.

Vancouver Canadians Baseball at Nat Bailey Stadium
Home games start April 15
Starting the season in April, Vancouver Canadians baseball games at “the Nat” are a quintessential spring/summer experience here in the city. With the bases loaded, local craft beer flowing, and the hot dogs sizzling… it’s time to play ball! The Canadians are the High-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, and start times of the games vary, with some “nooner” games, and others starting late in the day. But you can always bet on a race between sushi-costumed mascots (like we said, it’s a very Vancouver experience) and plenty of good cheer to go around.

Easter in Vancouver
April 18 – 20
Whether you’re a devout Christian, or just a secular lover of chocolate and cute bunnies, if you’re visiting Vancouver over the Easter long weekend, you’ll find plenty to do. The Burrard’s downtown location means it’s close to services including those at the recently restored St. Andrews-Wesley United Church, and Christ Church Cathedral. If you want to work off your Easter Brunch, check out the Big Easter Run at Jericho Beach on April 19 – the self-described “hoppiest run of the year”. If you’re more interested in chocolate (or if you have kids that are), consider dropping into the Eggs-tacular Easter Egg Hunt at Yaletown’s Roundhouse Community Centre. Or venture out into the suburbs for farm-based fun such as Easterfest at Taves Family Farms and Baby Animal Easter Days at Maan Farms, both of which are in Abbotsford.

Casey and Diana at Arts Club Theatre
April 24 – May 25
Playing on the Arts Club Theatre’s Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage, Casey and Diana is inspired by actual events that took place back in 1991 at the peak of the AIDS crisis. It tells the story of Diana, Princess of Wales, visiting Casey House, Canada’s first AIDS hospice, leaving audiences buoyed with hope. Take advantage of the theatre’s South Granville location and indulge in a pre-theatre bite or beverage at Gary’s or The Stable House Bistro.
