Things to Do in Vancouver – June 2023
Wendy Underwood
The weather is heating up, and so is Vancouver’s summer festival scene! Grab the sunglasses and sunscreen, and get ready as the city strolls into the lazy days of summer. In June we have three red-hot festivals for you to get excited about, and a musical for good measure. Here are our top picks for things to do in Vancouver this June.
BC Cider Fest
June 3
Back for a fourth year, the BC Cider Fest is the ultimate celebration of our province’s growing love for cider. Grab a ticket as soon as you can (it always sells out!) and you’ll enjoy included sampling from 30+ cideries from the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Held at the Pipe Shop over in North Vancouver (with a beautiful view back to downtown Vancouver), you can expect to find local favourites such as Windfall and Taves, along with Okanagan cideries including Nomad, Cambium and Creek & Gully.
Beautiful: The Carole King Musical at Arts Club Theatre
June 8 – August 6
Combining the captivating true story of Carole King’s rise to stardom with her incredible catalogue of songs, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical will have you tapping your feet and singing along (we guarantee you know more songs than you think you do!). From her teens through to the overwhelming success of her solo album, Tapestry, this show tells the Carole King story in the most infectious way.
Vancouver International Jazz Festival
June 23 – July 2
The Vancouver International Jazz Festival brings together about a half-million music fans each year, with a line-up that spans traditional jazz, through soul, blues, R&B and electronic artists. And this year will be no different. Expect headliners such as Chris Botti and BadBadNotGood to pack the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, while Sun Ra Arkestra and Pura Fe & Jesse Zubot bring in fans to Performance Works on Granville Island. As always, the big names are supported by up-and-coming acts, with lots of free performances on offer around the city.
Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival
June 24 & 25
Celebrating 35 years, the Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival is back for another fun, free community celebration, right on False Creek. In the space surrounding Science World, visitors will enjoy performances on the Main Stage (check out the line-up here), Indigenous and Chinese cultural pavilions, food trucks and a marketplace. And of course, two days of dragon boat racing!
