Things to Do in Vancouver – June 2024
Wendy Underwood
The days are getting longer and a sun-filled June is offering up plenty of events around the city to make the most of the epic days ahead. Vancouver International Jazz Festival hits the city in the second part of the month with plenty of live performances to keep your toes tapping. And from cultural markets, to live theatre and festivals, there’s so much happening in our city. Here are four of our top things to do in Vancouver this June.
Richmond Night Market
Friday, Saturday & Sunday nights through October 14
With over a million visitors per season, the Richmond Night Market is the place to cool down and chill out on a summer’s evening! Food is a big focus, with over 110 vendors offering up more than 600 different items, many of which are highly-Instagrammable. Hits this year include the sushi hot dog, ramen donut, and chicken lollipops! Of course, you’ll also find your favourite midway games and a main stage with dance teams, musicians and martial arts displays. The market is just one block from the Bridgeport Skytrain station so getting there is super easy.
Planted Expo
June 1 & 2
Whether you’re a committed vegan or just “plant-curious,” Planted Expo promises food for thought as well as the body! This year’s show brings together more than 200 vegan food and lifestyle brands, along with an education stage with a packed lined-up of speakers, panel discussions and demonstrations. Headlining speakers include Dr. Michael Greger, the founder of NutritionFacts.org; Colleen Patrick-Goudreau, aka “The Joyful Vegan”; and Chef Doug McNish.
Bard On The Beach
June 11 – September 21
There are plenty of Shakespeare festivals around the world, but it’s quite possible Vancouver’s Bard on the Beach has the most jaw-dropping setting of all. Under the tents in Vanier Park, a stone’s throw from Kitsilano Beach, catch this year’s production of Twelfth Night, Hamlet, Comedy of Errors, or Measure for Measure with a stunning seaside view of English Bay, downtown Vancouver, the North Shore mountains, and spectacular sunsets. For something a little different, Wine Wednesday events include a pre-performance wine tasting and talk before the show starts.
Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival
June 22 & 23
The Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival is a weekend of fun, free community celebrations, right on the waters of False Creek by Science World, and this year is bigger and better than ever! In between the adrenaline-charged dragon boat races, visitors can enjoy performances on the Main Stage (headliners include Hey Ocean and Manila Grey – check out the line-up here); Indigenous, Chinese and Pride cultural pavilions, food trucks and a marketplace. New for this year is Vancouver’s first public drone show, lighting up the sky over False Creek to celebrate the first weekend of the summer.
