Things To Do in Vancouver – March 2023
Wendy Underwood
The old saying goes that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb, but here in Vancouver – who knows? On any given day this month we could see anything from blazing sunshine to a downpour of rain; even a gentle snowfall isn’t unheard of. What we can count on is a busy calendar, full of fun activities to do around town. Here are four can’t-miss events looking forward to.
Vancouver Cocktail Week
March 5 – 11
Let us guess: we already had you at Vancouver Cocktail Week, right? Presented by the Alchemist, B.C.’s only magazine wholly devoted to cocktail culture, events range from Oysters & Scotchtails, to a Campari Negroni Hour (you bet there’s a fountain!). Those looking to keep it a little more casual might want to hit up Late Night Bites & Tropical Gin Cocktails at East Van’s buzzy new Mount Pleasant Vintage & Provisions, or enjoy a Sangria Siesta over at Como Taperia. Regardless of which event(s) you hit up, there will most certainly be many an occasion to raise a glass or two.
Vancouver Whitecaps
March 11
The World Cup’s just wrapped up and it’s almost time for the next season of Ted Lasso. Let’s stick with the theme and enjoy a little live action when Major League Soccer’s Vancouver Whitecaps play FC Dallas on March 11 at BC Place. The games are always fun and rambunctious, even before kickoff. Join the “March to the Match” leaving from the corner Granville and Smithe 15 minutes before the ticket gates open, where hundreds of fans spread cheer and revelry as they head towards the arena, waving scarves and flags; everyone’s invited!
SZA: SOS Tour
March 19
After plenty of success producing and partnering with the likes of Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, and Beyoncé, Solána Imani Rowe – known to millions of adoring fans as SZA, is now headlining arenas the world over, including our very own Rogers Arena on March 19, with her SZA: SOS Tour. Touting the likes of everyone from Ella Fitzgerald to Lauren Hill as influences, SZA has garnered a trophy shelf chock-full of awards from Grammys to Billboard Music Awards, plus made numerous high-profile appearances, including a recent outing as musical guest on Saturday Night Live. This can be “that time you saw her in Vancouver” you’ll share for years to come.
Pretty Woman: The Musical
March 29 – April 2
Based on the popular movie, Pretty Woman: The Musical is here for a short and certain-to-be-packed run at Queen Elizabeth Theatre. Written by J.F. Lawton and Garry Marshall, the duo behind the film – the musical also features a score by Jim Vallance and Canada’s own Bryan Adams! As the tagline says: Are you ready to fall in love all over again?
