Things to Do in Vancouver – May 2022
Wendy Underwood
We’re cruising towards summer, and May is bursting with so many fun events in Vancouver, we don’t know where to start! Looking for film festivals, art shows, craft beer tastings, and even a boat party? Below you’ll find our picks for the top things to do in Vancouver this month.
2022 DOXA Documentary Film Festival
May 5 – 15
DOXA, Vancouver’s iconic contemporary documentary film festival returns! As well as in-theatre showings at venues like SFU Goldcorp Centre, VIFF Centre, and the Cinematheque, film-enthusiasts will be able to enjoy this year’s fare by streaming from the comfort of living (or hotel) room. After kicking things off with the opening presentation of Fire of Love by director Sara Dosa on Saturday, May 7 at The Playhouse, over the course of 10 days the festival serves up a shorts program that includes spotlights on everyone from a Britney Spears fan to an open-water swimmer, along with feature length screenings like My Two Voices (Mis dos voces) – a fascinating study of immigration from director Lina Rodriguez.
Brewhalla Beer & Music Festival
May 21
Here on the West Coast, the craft beer scene continues to explode. Enjoy a hearty brunch in historic Fort Langley, then head to Fort Langley Park to revel amongst 30 craft breweries, eight local musicians and 10 food trucks at Brewhalla. Toddle around the event enjoying the juicy, fresh fare from the likes of Strange Fellows Brewing, Faculty Brewing Co., and Moody Ales & Co. while tucking into plates from Reel Mac and Cheese, Texas Smoke BBQ, and other rounds of deliciousness.
Vancouver International Wine Festival
May 16 – 22
The wine world is back! Step into the Vancouver Convention Centre, which boasts a jaw dropping view of the harbour and North Shore mountains, and enjoy tipples from Australia to Uruguay during the Vancouver International Wine Festival. Local wine enthusiasts can look forward to blockbuster classics from wineries like Burrowing Owl and Poplar Grove, while fans of ‘la dolce vita’ can get their swirl on with producers like Piedmont’s Tommasi Family Estates and Rocca del Macìe from Tuscany. From grand tastings to seminars and dinners, there’s a little bit of everything on offer.
Victoria Day Weekend Boat Party Vancouver 2022
May 21
Be honest, we had you at “Victoria Day Weekend Boat Party,” didn’t we? Don your white party duds and splash into a good three-hour trip around Vancouver harbour with a soundtrack of Top 40, hip hop, throwback, R&B, reggaetón, and more while partygoers enjoy spectacular views from two floors of fun. The weather’s getting warmer and there’s nothing like enjoying Vancouver sights and sounds while being on the water, under the stars.
