November in Vancouver has lots of spirit! Whether it’s literally what’s in your glass, a celebration of independent artists and crafts people, surrealist circus performance, or the first glimpses of holiday spirit, the city is a pretty fun place to be this month. Below are our picks for capturing Vancouver’s spirit during November.

Cirque du Soleil Luzia

Cirque du Soleil’s Luzia
Through December 29
Combining its trademark surrealist spirit with jaw-dropping acrobatic feats, Cirque du Soleil is back in Vancouver with Luzia. This show takes you to an imaginary version of Mexico, where light (luz in Spanish) and rain (lluvia) quench the spirit and soothe the soul. Performed under Cirque’s impressive grand chapiteau tent at Concord Pacific Place, it’s an easy walk down from The Burrard.

Eastside Culture Crawl
November 14 – 17
Our favourite visual arts and crafts festival, the indie spirit of the Eastside Culture Crawl is back, this year with 454 artists opening their studios to the public for four days, scattered across 68 buildings. Download the map and wander between stops, which are mainly bordered by Main Street to the west, Victoria Drive to the east, Industrial Avenue to the south, and the waterfront to the north. Along with a la carte wandering, there are a number of events including a beer-focused bike ride, technique demonstrations, and art installations.

Hopscotch Festival of Whisky, Beer & Spirits
November 18 – 24
Now in its 24th year, the Hopscotch Festival brings together some of our favourite tipples: whisky, beer and spirits. Held down at the PNE Forum, the Grand Tasting Hall features some of the world’s best known premium brands, ready for you to sample some old favourites and get to know some new ones. Tickets include admission, your souvenir tasting glass and program, but you’ll need to buy tokens to get your glass filled. Another option is the Master Class series for a deep dive into various spirits and whisk(e)y houses.

CandyTown
November 30
One of the first holiday events on the calendar, CandyTown is a free, one-day celebration in Yaletown, which transforms Hamilton, Mainland and Davie streets into a winter wonderland. Browse the vendor stalls, sing along with the carollers, and enjoy the holiday-themed street entertainment. And CandyTown isn’t just for the kiddos! Those over 19 can take part in the self-guided cocktail tour, hitting up some of Yaletown’s best restaurants and bars for a little seasonal cheer.
