Things to Do in Vancouver: October 2019
Wendy Underwood
Fall is definitely here, and is it just us, or is it sort of nice to be wearing a big sweater and drinking apple cider? We’re in full on comfort mode this month, with a knitting show, our version of an Oktoberfest beer hall, an apple festival, and the fall home show. Read below for more info on things to do in Vancouver this October!
Knit City Vancouver
October 4 – 7
The place to explore anything yarn-related, Knit City Vancouver is made up of a workshop series and a grand marketplace full of vendors. Workshops cover hand knitting techniques, yard dying, weaving and more and run throughout the full four days. The marketplace will be open on Saturday and Sunday at the PNE Forum, and along with vendors, you’ll also find demonstrations, and a group of food trucks stationed outside.
Harvest Haus
October 10 – 19
Vancouver’s coolest Oktoberfest celebration has now grown into an all-ages event, with the famous beer hall nights now joined by a “Harvestland” experience including a Bavarian village, a “kinder farm” for the little ones, a woodland labyrinth, fairground rides, and lots to eat and drink! Tickets for the rowdier, 19+ Harvest Haus include traditional entertainment as well as, depending on the night, themed shenanigans such as a lip-sync battle and a romance evening.
UBC Apple Festival
October 19
Nothing says fall like a bushel of freshly-picked apples! The UBC Apple Festival is the place to try varieties that you’ve never seen before, stock up on apples, buy fruit trees, and learn more about everything pomme while you enjoy treats like pies, crumbles and cider. This is a family friendly event, with face painting for the kids as well as entertainment for all ages.
Vancouver Fall Home Show
October 24 – 27
If autumn is prime nesting season, then walking around the Vancouver Fall Home Show represents “peak nesting.” Plan your visit around a presentation on one of the demonstration stages, with talks by celebs including reno king Bryan Baumler, Chef Bruno Feldeisen from the Great Canadian Baking Show, and HGTV’s Sabrina Smelko. Then stroll the show’s exhibition floor, packed with everything from contractors and roofing companies through to the Portobello West market showcasing local artisans.
