Canada Place from Crab Park in autumn

As summer fades away, we’re embracing the cozy comforts of fall—think warm sweaters, crisp leaves underfoot, thick books to get lost in, and of course, all things pumpkin-spiced. Fortunately, Vancouver has no shortage of autumn-friendly activities, from harvest festivals to the start of the city’s vibrant arts season. Here are our top recommendations for what to experience in Vancouver this October.

HowlOver Canada

HowlOver Canada

Looking for some spooky fun in Vancouver this month? Flyover at Canada Place is once again running its HowlOver Canada show, and kids get to fly for free! This multi-sensory experience has you soaring with Biker Mama and her ghoulish buddies on her tricked-out broomstick as they fly over Canada on a supernatural journey. Watch the trailer here and then book your tickets! While kids get to enjoy the adventure for free, you will need to still book a ticket for them.

WXV1 Women's Rugby Tournament Vancouver

WXV1 Women’s Rugby Global Competition – Round 3

If the women’s rugby competition caught your eye at the Summer Olympics, you won’t want to miss the WXV1 tournament coming to Vancouver this month. Consisting of three rounds over three weekends, the final weekend will be played at BC Place Stadium, just a short walk from The Burrard. The WXV competition actually consists of three levels all playing on the same weekends around the globe, with WXV1 played in Canada, WXV2 in South Africa, and WXV3 in Dubai. WXV1 – the highest tier, will feature Canada, England, France, Ireland, New Zealand and the USA, and is a qualifier for the Women’s Rugby World Cup England 2025.

Vancouver Outsider Arts Festival

Vancouver Outsider Art Festival
October 11 – 13
Highlighting the talents of visual artists and performers working beyond the mainstream, the 8th annual Vancouver Outsider Art Festival offers a unique chance to broaden your artistic perspective. Kick things off with the free opening night at Yaletown’s Roundhouse Community Centre, where you can preview works from over 400 artists. After that, dive deeper into the festival with interactive workshops, a photo walk, band night, an exhibition hall featuring the work of participating visual artists, and more.

Apples

UBC Apple Festival
October 19 & 20
Nothing says fall like a bushel of freshly-picked apples! BC grows lots of apples, and the UBC Apple Festival is the place to try types you’ve never seen before in the Tasting Tent, stock up on apples, buy fruit trees, and learn more about everything pomme while you enjoy fall treats. Last year you could sample over 50 varieties and purchase bags of more than 35 different kinds. This year, make sure that you sample the brand-new Summerland Sunset variety. Now in its 33rd year, this family-friendly event has face painting for the kids as well as entertainment for all ages.
