Things To Do In Vancouver – September 2022
Wendy Underwood
Most Vancouverites and regular visitors will tell you September is the best month to be in the city. The intense heat of the summer is beginning to wane, there are still plenty of daylight hours to get out there and enjoy Vancouver’s highlights, and there is a seemingly endless number of cultural events to take in. Here are our top picks for things to do in Vancouver this September.
RESTLESS: Recent Acquisitions
Through September 11
The Vancouver Art Gallery has been looking toward eventually moving into a new downtown venue as their impressive collection keeps growing. There’s only room to publicly showcase a small fraction of it at any given time, so any current show is certainly a very exclusive opportunity. The RESTLESS: Recent Acquisitions at the Vancouver Art Gallery brings newer works to the space, specifically highlights from the Gallery’s Institute of Asian Art. While you’re there, we always recommend enjoying a glass of wine on the leafy terrace, too!
Light Up Chinatown!
September 10 & 11
Light Up Chinatown! is a fantastic opportunity to stroll the sidewalks of this historic Vancouver neighbourhood. Food trucks, lights and decorations will add cheer to the streets, there will be live entertainment, and we can ensure many an Instagram-worthy moment in colourful shops, restaurants, and cultural centres. Make sure you don’t miss the fun Foo Hung Curios shop at the Chinatown Storytelling Centre for home goods, stationary, and an excellent book selection.
The Avalanches at the Malkin Bowl
September 16
Seeing an outdoor show at Stanley Park’s Malkin Bowl, surrounded by forest as the sun sets is a quintessential summer experience. Bringing vibrancy and fun to the occasion this month will be Australian electronic act, The Avalanches on September 16. An enjoyable, casual experience – there will be food and drink options to enjoy while listening to hits like Frontier Psychiatrist and Since I Left You, and the stars begin to shine above.
Wildlife Rescue – Miracles in Conservation at Vancouver Aquarium
Through September 25
Intimate and interactive experiences are what you’ll discover at Wildlife Rescue – Miracles in Conservation at the Vancouver Aquarium. Get up-close and hands-on with Burmese star tortoises and crested geckos, dwarf caimans and more while chatting with Aquarium professionals about ongoing rescue and conservation efforts. Our aquarium is internationally renowned for its work on research, education, and animal rehabilitation; this is a great chance to have conversations with experts in their field.
