The kids might be back at school, but Vancouver is still makes a great playground for the adults in September! We’ve got comedy, Fringe silliness, and monster trucks to keep things light and playful. But if you’re looking for something a little more cultural, September is also home to a design show, as well as two film festivals: Vancouver Queer Film Festival (September 11 – 22) and Vancouver International Film Festival (September 26 – October 6). Read more about our picks for things to do in Vancouver in September below.

Vancouver Fringe Festival
September 7 – 17
Always a good time, Vancouver Fringe Festival turns 40 this year! Fringe presents the perfect occasion to take a chance: whether you’re getting tickets for an emerging artist you’ve never heard of, a show that pushes the boundaries, or maybe just the kind of performance that you wouldn’t ordinarily go for, the risk is mitigated by the fact that tickets start at just $15 (plus the $10 annual membership). With more than 65 acts spanning theatre, improv, drag, spoken word and even a “queer nautical comedy”, you’re sure to find something to tempt you.

Great Outdoors Comedy Festival
September 13 – 15
Live comedy comes to Vancouver’s downtown version of the “great outdoors”, Stanley Park! Over three nights, the Great Outdoors Comedy Festival delivers al fresco yuks thanks to some of the biggest names in comedy. Friday night’s show is “Tom Segura: Come Together With Bobby Lee & Jessica Kirson”,  Saturday is “Theo Von: Return of the Rat with Trevor Wallace & Maddy Smith”, and Sunday’s line-up includes Mark Normand, Andrew Santino, Ralph Barbosa, Dan Soder and Fahim Anwar. Ticket options range from general admission (BYO chair), to VIP (chair and table provided, tableside bar service) and suites for the ultimate experience.

Interior Design Show – Vancouver
September 26 – 29
More than just a tradeshow, the Interior Design Show – Vancouver is a conference for all things design. The West Coast sister of the acclaimed Interior Design Show – Toronto, IDS Vancouver was established in 2004 and continues to bring together interior designers, architects and other industry professionals, and attract design-savvy consumers. While only the pros are invited to the trade day seminars, the rest of us can roam the show floor on the Saturday and Sunday, which includes stage presentations, a Future Neighbourhood exhibit, and The District design market.

Monster Jam 2024
September 28 & 29
If your enjoyment of entertainment is directly proportional to its volume, Monster Jam has you dialled! With three shows over the weekend, this is one place where your kids can scream their lungs out and they won’t be the loudest thing in the room. Instead, it will be 12,000 lb trucks with names like Grave Digger and Megalodon responsible for the ruckus as they race, do donuts, and freestyle. The show also includes a freestyle motocross exhibition, guaranteed to whip the audience into a (very loud) frenzy.
