Labour Day might signal the informal end of summer, but this city still has some sunshiny good times left in it! We’ve got laughs thanks to the Great Outdoor Comedy Festival and Fringe silliness, not to mention two Car-Free Days in some of our favourite neighbourhoods (on Commercial Drive on September 6 and Main Street on September 14). But if you’re looking for something a little more cultural, Vancouver has you covered there as well, with a design show and the Vancouver Queer Film Festival. Read more about our picks for things to do in Vancouver in September below.

Vancouver Fringe Festival
September 4 – 14
Now in its 41st year, Vancouver Fringe Festival presents the perfect occasion to take a chance: whether you’re getting tickets for an emerging artist you’ve never heard of, a show that pushes the boundaries, or maybe just the kind of performance that you wouldn’t ordinarily go for, the risk is mitigated by the fact that tickets start at just $16. This year, the festival includes 87 shows, including Kids Fringe performances, and a brand-new comedy series with Little Mountain Gallery in Gastown.

Vancouver Queer Film Festival
September 11 – 21
With a line-up of 100 films that centre 2SLGBTQIA+ creators and stories, the Vancouver Queer Film Festival kicks off on September 11 with its opening presentation: Then. Now. Forever. This collection of seven short films celebrates the community’s past, present and futures. Along with screenings (many of which are premieres), the festival also includes parties, performances, Q&A sessions and industry events. Not able to make the IRL festival? Catch the online version from September 22 – 28.

Vancity Card Show
September 19 – 21
Collectors, casual fans and families alike won’t want to miss the Vancity Card Show at the Vancouver Convention Centre this month. With over 500 tables to explore, this is the place to be for those collecting and trading cards and collectibles. Presented by eBay, you’ll find everything from rare Pokemon collectibles to sports trading cards, vintage finds to the newest releases.

IDS West

Interior Design Show – Vancouver
September 25 – 28
More than just a tradeshow, the Interior Design Show – Vancouver is a conference for all things design. The West Coast sister of the acclaimed Interior Design Show – Toronto, IDS Vancouver was established in 2004 and continues to bring together interior designers, architects and other industry professionals, and attract design-savvy consumers. While only the pros are invited to the trade day seminars, the rest of us can roam the show floor on the Saturday and Sunday, which includes stage presentations, the Night and Day Future Neighbourhood exhibit, and The District design market.
