Upcoming Event: PuSh International Performing Arts Festival
Wendy Underwood
Vancouver’s annual PuSh International Performing Arts Festival steps up as the first major cultural festival of the 2019. Celebrating its 15 year anniversary this year, the festival showcases work from contemporary local, national and international artists that push the boundaries in live performance art. The event uniquely brings together highly curated, multidisciplinary and critically acclaimed work from different disciplines under the umbrella of a single festival. Considered a festival of national importance, each performance is designed to spark dialogue and thoughtful discourse. This year, artists explore issues around race, greed, sexual assault, and religion. Each thought provoking performance makes room for discussion by creating new ways of storytelling, staging, and views on today’s top issues. Shows range from art-fashion-dance performances that play with the concept of map-making and immigration to plays about love, sex, and disability.
In the artistic community, PuSh is valued for brokering international partnerships and expediting cultural and community development. For Canadian artists, the festival offers opportunities for global networking while audiences take in performances that are inspiring and engaging.
