If the leaves changing colour make you want to snuggle up with a good book, you’re not alone. The annual Vancouver Writers Fest gives you plenty of options to consider, with a week of events bringing together some of the biggest literary names on the planet! From October 20 through 26, fans of the written word will find everything from moderated panels to readings, writing workshops and even a literary cabaret. Most events take place on Granville Island, which gives you a great excuse to visit one of the handful of bookstores in the district while you’re there. Here are some of this year’s events that are at the top of our wish list.

It Runs in the Family: Georgia and Miriam Toews (October 21)
An interview with this Canadian mother-daughter writing duo looking at what’s it like to be raised by a literary heavyweight, and how you provide guidance and support when your child chooses the same profession.

UBC Night Class (October 22)
An annual festival favourite, this interactive workshop features writing tips and prompts across genres under the guidance of instructors from UBC’s School of Creative Writing.

Christian Allaire: From the Rez to the Runway (October 25)
A conversation with Allaire, Vogue‘s senior fashion and style writer, about his meteoric rise from his childhood on the Nipissing First Nation reserve in Ontario to New York City’s fashion Mecca.

Kiran Desai in Conversation (October 26)
The Booker Prize-winning author discusses her latest book, The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny, as well as her writing life and the nature of artistic ambition.
