With 2020 just around the corner, it’s time to celebrate! Vancouver offers lots of ways to count down to midnight, but how do you choose? While the big annual fireworks celebrations in downtown Vancouver have been cancelled this year, there are still plenty of other ways to ring in the new year. To help navigate your event options, we’ve put together a list of choices with activities to suit your interests, whether your year was one for the history books or you’re just ready to leave 2019 behind.

For the Non-Conformist:
Back for the fourth year, you won’t even have to pay the regular transit fare to join the New Year’s Eve SkyTrain Party! (Translink offers free transit from 5 pm on December 31 to 5 am on January 1.) The event starts at 8 pm on a Canada Line train and runs until 1 am, with the boarding location announced 12 hours prior. Be sure to register for your free ticket to get the details. The party is expected to fill a full train, with speakers installed in each end.

For the Outdoor Adventurer and Après Enthusiast:
This celebration is a double doozy; a one-two treat for the senses! Head up to Grouse Mountain for some fun in the snow: schuss the slopes, or strap on some snowshoes and hike through the forest and the illuminated Light Walk. Warm up in the chalet before indulging in dinner, either at the laid-back Altitudes Bistro, or the fine dining Observatory Restaurant. Multiple seatings are offered throughout the evening, and your prix fixe menu includes your SkyRide ticket up to the top of the mountain.

For the Family:
Maybe you’re toting little ones on December 31, or perhaps you’re just down for some silly fun before getting to bed at a decent time. The Family-Friendly New Year’s Variety Show at the Vancouver Playhouse is present by local troupe Circus3 and features “a cast of fools” including circus acrobats, a magician, as well as a few surprises, and caps it all off with Vancouver’s largest balloon drop. With shows at 3 pm and 8 pm, you can put the kids to bed early and then keep the party going .

Science World

For the Scenester:
Countdown to midnight at a rocking party – with a twist. One of Vancouver’s most unique and playful event spaces, TELUS World of Science, opens up for the night for a 19+ party for the ages. Now in its 13th year, the dress-to-impress event has the feel of a nightclub in a venue full of interactive science stations. There will be three rooms of music, six DJs and five bar areas (bring cash!). The iconic, waterfront landmark holds 1,100 people and overlooks Vancouver’s False Creek.

For the Craft Beer Lover:
If you’re enamoured with the creative craft brews that have taken over Vancouver in recent years, this is your one-stop-spot to imbibe in the best beverages the city has to offer. CRAFT Beer Market’s Black & Gold New Year’s Eve is their biggest celebration yet! Choose from either a “dance party” ticket, or a “dinner and dance” ticket which then includes drink tickets, live food stations and passed canapes, DJ entertainment, late night snacks and – despite the craft beer theme – a toast of sparking wine at midnight.

With our central downtown location, we’re a good choice for those celebrating in the city this New Year’s Eve! Visit our booking page for great rates.
